Pollokshaws Burgh Hall, G43 1NE

Blackpool comes to Pollokshaws!
Dance the night away in the stunning ballroom of Pollokshaws Burgh Hall on the same dance floor that Strictly Come Dancing stars have used to rehearse!
Just like at the world famous Blackpool Tower Ballroom, we not only have a magnificent Wurlitzer organ, but we also have the principal organist of the Tower Ballroom of over 40 years, Mr Phil Kelsall MBE. Phil will play for two, one-hour sessions of ballroom, sequence and Scottish dancing in his instantly recognisable and inimitable style.
Whether you’re a professional dancer, are a secret Strictly fan, or just have fond memories of Blackpool, you’ll be sure to have an absolute ball!
We are selling tickets online through Eventbrite, who charge a small administration fee. Tickets will also be available to buy on the door (cash only), subject to availability.
Your maestro for the evening…
Blackpool Tower’s Ballroom is home to what must be the most famous and most played Wurlitzer organ in the world and Phil Kelsall has amazingly now completed 40 years at the Tower, having been appointed in 1975, initially as organist in the Tower Circus band with occasional appearances in the Ballroom.
In 1977 Ernest Broadbent the then Tower organist, retired through ill-health and Phil was the obvious choice as the new principal resident organist, a position he has held ever since.
The demands on Phil for concert appearances have always been heavy and his touring season begins at the end of October and continues until May each year when he returns to the Tower Ballroom for the summer season. A significant engagement is playing the Wurlitzer at the Thursford Collection for their season of Christmas shows, which runs to around 70 performances each year, performing to an estimated audience of over 110,000. Phil performs frequent concerts in the the USA and has undertaken a highly successful tour of Australia and New Zealand.
Phil was extremely proud to have unexpectedly received the MBE in the 2010 Queen’s Birthday Honours List for services to music and Phil has now joined former Tower Legends Reginald Dixon and Norman Barrett (the former Tower Circus Ringmaster), who were also recipients of this honour.
Want more music? There’s more Phil to enjoy…
Phil Kelsall has been playing our January concert for the past decade, and will be doing the same this year. Enjoy dancing to the “Blackpool Bounce” on the Saturday evening, and come back on the Sunday afternoon to sit back, relax and enjoy Phil in ‘concert’ mode as he shows the Wurlitzer organ off in a completely different light!
